This week I decided to write a blog on “A Tale of Two Campuses: Berkeley and Davis Respond to Occupy Movements”. After reading this article, right away many questions come to mind. Why was Berkeley’s protest successful while Davis’ was not even though they are both under the same, system-wide UC program? The article just goes to show how very similar events can take place in two different settings, and the turnouts can be completely different. But is there any justification for the way Davis’ chancellor Linda Kateh responded? Something such as noting that Dutton Hall had a lot more damage compared to Berkeley’s campus would give us more insight on this but the article doesn’t tell us if that is the case. Even though the MCap policy was in place prior to the Occupy events, why wasn’t it enforced and have the results that the students were expecting. Regardless of all these questions, no one can deny that Berkeley was a lot more compromising in this case and listened to the students complaints and took action, while Davis really seemed to think of the Occupy Movement as troublesome.

Question: A lot of questions came to mind in this article, but the major ones I have are what differences occurred between the Berkeley and Davis protests? Was Berkeley’s a lot more peaceful and less damaging? Did Davis even adhere to these complaints and try to develop a compromise?
