In this short and brief article posted by Alan Markow, it describes and compares the differences of outcome by the Occupy Movements presented by UC Davis and UC Berkeley. The article expresses the responses of each administration and analyzes what steps could have been taken especially for Davis as the Occupy Movement received backlash from its administration compared to Berkeley's own administration offering solutions for its students and engaging in support for its students. Markow shows us two messages, one from Davis the other from Berkeley, of the different responses taken from each administration. In the message informing of Occupy Davis, what the message sent out was not of concern of students welfare and voices within an institution that is driven among and by students but of the concern for the building and the workers who had to come in after working hours to clean up the building before it was up for working hours. It clearly did not express the concerns of its students as well as ignoring the students' voices and rights. In comparison to Berkeley, the response was received favorably by the students. By listening to students' voices and seeing them protesting and being involved in activism against budget costs and higher tuition, the admin in Berkeley came out with a proposal/solution that compromises with students and their concerns and welfare. Even though both UC public institution are under the same branch, the responses given differs in terms of students and their welfare. Markow leaves us (the readers) a thought as to why Davis and Berkeley can provide such a vast difference in response concerning the Occupy Movement and really shows the disparity between students and administration.
