Week 2_Yueming Tan, A01

The article “Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices” by OiYan Poon and Ajani Byrd mainly describes the influence of parents when Asian American students choose a university. As an Asian American and as a university student, I think Asian parents have too much power in the family. My parents want me to study business or finance because they think I can find a high-paying job after I graduate from college. On the other hand, for cultural reasons, relatives can also affect Asian students when they choose college and major. For example, my cousin likes music, but my brother picked business, and he felt left behind, so he gave up music major and chose business.

I chose this picture because I think it is very symbolic. The tiger represents Asian parents, and the girl who plays the piano represents Asian students.
