Having an identity where you share two cultures is always very conflicting. In this week’s reading, “Love, Money, Prison, Sin, Revenge” I was able to read from the perspective from a son of a Vietnamese refugee. An incident occurred fifteen years after the Vietnam War where four Vietnamese Americans felt the need to have a mass killing at a video store due to their families’ suffering in Vietnam; communism deeply hurt their family’s beliefs.
The author furthered the discussion by explaining the difficulty of living in America with two cultures that clash with one another and how it is natural to feel revenge. I always felt that America’s culture has always been shifting my views towards my Filipino culture, whether it being the clothes I wear, the food I eat, or simply the way I speak. A feeling of revenge does come and go because of the way America views minorities, but it is important to realize that revenge just creates a mess rather than doing any justice.

Question: What can America do to make other minorities feel that America is their home also?
