Blog 8-A01-Pahnia Vang

For this week, I read the article on IPV or intimate partner violence among Asian American immigrant communities or more specifically among the women within this immigrant Asian community. Through the article, I realized that IPV are real and valid. Most goes unnoticed because of the Asian culture or ethics that what is personal should be personal among married couples and not to the other. I have seen cases like these within my own ethnic community and what is disappointing is that the women don't "show or tell." It is like a cultural stigma as described in the article. What's more is that IPV ruins many things such as ones health, relationship with family and others, emotional state, and many more related factors. I honestly think that there needs to be more prevention programs or information session to give advice to Asian immigrant communities about IPVs. But it will also be challenging too because of the cultural norms of an Asian culture in respect to all ethnicities that falls under this category. This can be tied to what we discussed in class about cultural hegemony and how through this hegemonic environment, it is hard and difficult to break away from the mold that was built from the beginning of time.

Question: How can we spread the word on IPV and not make it look like we are fighting against ones culture? How can we come to an understanding?
