Reading Reflection #1
on “UC Davis Facts”
It was interesting to
see that Asians make up a huge portion of the undergraduates. The proportion of
undergraduate Asians (40%) even exceeds that of undergraduate whites (33%). Something
also noteworthy about the undergraduate population was that the Chinese/Chinese-Americans
contributed the most to the Asian group; the Chinese make up more than twice of
any other Asian group that make up the Asian population in each of the three
groups (the undergraduates, graduate academic and the professional, health science,
and self-supp groups). This can also be seen through the fact that I see many
more Chinese students than other Asian students on campus. It is fascinating to see how much of the UC Davis population consists of
Asians.
Question: Why would the
non-U.S. citizens group be counted as one category, as it may contain people of
various ethnicities?
