Week 3 - Nai Saechao - Section A03

I enjoyed reading this week's reading because we are rarely given information about Hmong culture. I am a Mien American and I know what it’s like to have no one really knowing what my culture is so I can relate to these readings a lot. Both readings have showed me more of what the small cultures are going through and how difficult it is when there aren’t as much resources given.

A way that I am involved with my culture is participating in the Iu-Mien Student Conference. I went to three conferences and every time they gave something new. I learned a lot about my culture and what I should do to support the community.

From the article, Moua connected being a Hmong American to how they are educated. We know that the minority group struggle to fit in or get the help that is needed. There are many people who think that Asians are very smart, they are good at math and they do not struggle with money. And of course it is not true because not all asians are the same and it is not fair to those who really have nothing and people are saying that they do. It makes them feel like they are nothing.
What makes people think Asian American this way other than just from readings and hearing it “stories” from others about Asian Americans?
