Week 3 - Jessica Garza - A04

This weeks articles were intriguing. Manee Moua in “Navigating Graduate Education as a First-generation, Hmong American Woman: An Autoethnography”, examines her own experiences through a qualitative research method called autoethnography. For different minority groups such as AAPI and SEAA the path to higher education is extremely difficult. The lack of support and counseling for first-generation minority individuals, such as Hmong students in pursuit of graduate degrees, is astonishing. The disadvantages of cultural and exclusive U.S. education for Hmong students have lasting impacts. The path to obtaining graduate level degrees is already difficult and challenging in different ways. The miseducation, conscious and unconscious inherent disadvantages to Hmong individuals have a huge impact on their path to graduate and Phd level education.
