Week 2- Skye Jin A01

It is tricky to find that compare to what did Martin Luther King Jr. indicate that “To save man from the morass of propaganda, in my opinion, is one of the chief aims of education”, there are still a number of educated people make their decision under the influences from others without critical thinkings. For example, in the article “Beyond Tiger Mom Anxiety: Ethnic, Gender and Generational Differences in Asian American College Access and Choices” by OiYan Poon and Ajani Byrd, it looks like that especially for Asian American parents, they have huge influences on their kids’ college choices. However, the fact is that their parents are not professional in choosing colleges and most of them are simply paying attention to the rank of school. In my opinion, rather than listening to these parents’ suggestions, it is better to ask the students themselves what they are truly interested in. For this reason, I am very grateful to my parents since they always respect my decision and provide advice like my friend instead of forcing and making choices for me, which lead me to be an independent person.

As a product of stereotype of parental education, “Tiger mom” has been considered an advisable education method, but does it really benefit children?
