Tien Hao Lee. week 7 blog. Asa 002

After the Vietnam war a lot of Vietnamese people fled to United States, creating a community. Many of those Vietnamese immigrants suffers from war syndrome. With this new identity as Vietnamese immigrants, they were seem differently from the eyes of their home country. As the same time, they were being discriminated against due to being an immigrant. Those Vietnamese communities are struggling to find their own identity and feel lost. In my opinion, as a first generation chinese immigrant, I can understand how they feel. It is really important to find the sense of belonging, but very difficult to find it. The article talked about "The worst part of the situation is not just hte people must live with the fear of being called an enemy to the community or having aggressive protesters at their door, or even the fear that everything they say, do, or produce is being closely watched and judge. They worst part is that the fears the community has endured so long do not even seem odd any longer to many." Being silent is the worst possible situation. People simply accept their misfortune. I believe minorities should step up and fight for what they deserve. People should not just sit still and wait for changes to happen. We need to be active rather than proactive.
