In Professor Valverde’s article “Creating Identity, Defining Culture, and Making History from an Art Exhibit,” art is used as a form of expression to describe the history and experiences people of Vietnam endured and the struggles they had to go through. I think that it is good that the Vietnamese people used art as a way to tell their story, especially since they are scared speak their mind in public since they are constantly living in a state of fear. It is important for people to people to say what they think and not live like they are being judged or in a communist setting. Using art as a medium of communication is significant also because it helps people remember individual accounts and make sure their history is not forgotten because everyone’s life is equally important, minority or not. Communities need someone who is not afraid to speak their mind and be leaders of the community to implement both innovation and tradition.

How would the world we live in be different today if the whole community is silent?
