Article: CRS Report for Congress

I wonder how the Patriot Act affects Southeast Asian citizens and their ability to navigate through this country. I understand the act has increased the racialization and criminalization of Middle Eastern people and mistaken certain religious groups for others during racially charged acts of aggression. The PA also makes it easier for the U.S. government to detain citizens without questions. I wonder how this affects Southeast Asian refugees whose citizenship status or green cards have been revoked due to to crimes committed in their past. The government is now allowed to obtain confidential information and "sneak and peek" search warrants. I know that this would adversely affected undocumented immigrants. This must have made it easier for the Justice Department to prosecute what they consider to be "illegal aliens." Many Asian Americans students and their families must feel extremely unsafe with SA's passage. I feel like the Patriot Act reinforces the desire to follow the model minority myth and not to break the status quo because now there are federal repercussions for speaking out.

Q: How can student activism remedy the effects of the Patriot Act? Is there anything we can do?
