Diversity at UC Davis
While reading the UC Davis Profile, I was initially shocked by the lack of diversity on our campus. Based on the percentages alone, Asians and White make up about 70% of the UC Davis undergraduate population. I remember in one of my first job interviews in high school, the hiring manager asked me "how important is diversity to you?" and that was when I realized how much I cared for diversity in any setting including in the workplace. Diversity enriches a customers shopping experience just like how it would in an educational experience. It is important to be in an environment with people from diverse background and culture because that is how we will be able to learn the most. We learn through different peoples beliefs, cultures, perspective and etc. What I would have liked to see in this article though, would be the percentage of applicants the university accepted vs the percentage of students who got accepted and accepted. Also, if we broke down the Asians and White into the numerous sub-categories, would UC Davis be more diverse than it seems?
